Children need more skills than you think
08:36 - 12/01/2024
Children often spend a lot of time surfing the Internet, so parents need to set rules to help their children use it safely. To control your pup well, try some of these methods:
Children need more skills than you think, from how to treat a wound to how to cook a simple meal. Therefore, equip your children to confidently explore and develop.
Prepare a simple meal
Invite your children to cook together, delegate tasks, and stay calm when flour accidentally spills or eggs break on the floor. In the kitchen, depending on their age, you can guide your child in appropriate tasks:
- For preschoolers, you can teach your child to scoop yogurt into a bowl and add cut, pre-washed fruit.
- Show children 5 years and older how to make smoothies (monitor the blender closely).
- By the age of 10, they can use the stove, under the supervision of their parents.
Children often spend a lot of time surfing the Internet, so parents need to set rules to help their children use it safely. To control your pup well, try some of these methods:
- Choose a password that is difficult to guess.
- Teach your children to only chat online with people they know in real life.
- Do not provide personal information such as date of birth, home address or phone number.
- Be kind: Tell your child that anything said or sent in the virtual world stays.
- Ask your child to ask permission or help before downloading anything.
- Let your children know about the risks they may encounter on the internet.
Plant a tree
Many preschoolers learn how to sow seeds in class but don't know how to plant sprouts in the ground, according to Whitney Cohen, co-author of the Children's Gardening Project and director of education at Life Lab (USA). know.
Please guide your child on where to plant the tree:
- If possible, add some organic fertilizer to the top of the soil layer. Mix the soil with manure, clean the litter, water the soil until it is moist.
- Ask your child to dig a hole slightly larger than the pot of soil containing the plant.
- Place the tree in the hole, let your child gently mound the soil around the tree's base.
- Instruct your child to water with a small hose.
Wash clothes
Many young people go to college without knowing how to wash clothes, don't let your child become one of them. Teach your child to wash clothes when he or she is about 6 years old.
If you have a top-loading washing machine, keep a stool nearby. Guide your child through the process, how to remove detergent, select settings and start.
Write letter
Teach your child about the five parts of a letter: date, salutation, body, conclusion, and signature.
Encourage your child to write letters to close friends, write letters of gratitude to people who work for the community...
CPR
According to the American Heart Association, children under 9 years old can learn CPR.
Andrea Saroza, a mother in Cumming, Georgia, started showing her children the basics of breathing when they were just in kindergarten. "I let him practice on a teddy bear," Saroza said.
In 2019, those lessons paid off in a big way when her daughter Kiara Fernandez, now 14, saved her younger sister Jadah, 12, from choking in a restaurant, when Saroza was away. face.
Wound treatment
To keep your child from panicking when he sees blood, avoid overreacting.
- If the wound or scratch is bleeding, tell your child to press firmly on the area with a clean cloth until the bleeding stops.
- Hold the cut under running water or gently dab the cut with a wet paper towel.
- Apply antibiotic ointment with a cotton swab.
- Cover with tape, gauze or bandage.
Determine the direction
If you've ever gotten lost while following voice directions on your GPS, you'll know why knowing how to read a map is essential. These activities will help your child build orientation skills.
Teach your children by organizing a game of finding loot. Hide toys in the yard and draw a simple sketch to mark the location.
Show your 3 or 4 year old how objects on a map correspond to things in real life.
Compare when shopping
Becoming a smart consumer takes practice. Try this three-step approach:
- Talk about prices out loud and talk about your options with your child: "I bought this item here because it was 10 cents cheaper than the other store." Share with your child things you'd like to have (like sneakers or the latest tech gadget), but don't buy them because they're not in your budget.
- Sometimes, let me pay. You give your child an allowance, then assign certain items they are responsible for buying, such as games or food. It gives your child the opportunity to manage their own money and experience the satisfaction of saving for something they want, then buying it.
- When shopping in the supermarket, in store or online, task your child with finding the cheapest brand of cereal.
