Teach children skills during school breaks

Children can learn first aid, money management, and use fire extinguishers to practice independence and dispel boredom when having to miss school for long periods of time.
1. First aid
Start by showing your child where the family medicine box is located, what medical equipment or drugs are available and how to use them. A child's brain is like a sponge so it can absorb quickly and remember the knowledge imparted by parents for a long time.
You can teach your child basic first aid methods such as stopping bleeding, treating burns, and providing first aid for choking on a foreign object or being bitten by a pet. During this time, remind your child to regularly wash their hands, limit contact with crowded places, take vitamins, and nourish them with nutritious foods.
2. Money management
It's never too early to teach children about money management. Parents should start guiding children with small amounts of money such as pocket money and money to go to the supermarket. With pocket money, you can ask your child to observe and manage spending and saving, thereby forming fundamental concepts of income and expenditure.
3. Laundry
Washing your own clothes is one of the first and basic life skills that an independent, adult person needs to know. This skill is very simple so you can teach your children from a young age. The first step is to use the washing machine. Because young children absorb technology early, controlling the washing machine is hardly difficult for them. For older children, parents can ask their children to hand wash their own clothes.
In addition to washing clothes, during breaks, parents can entrust their children with washing dishes. This is also one of the basic jobs that helps children build a sense of responsibility towards their family.

4. Iron and iron clothes
For young children who cannot yet iron their own clothes, parents can guide their children on how to use it, the basic parameters or when it is necessary to use the iron so that they can quickly recognize it. For older children, you can let them try ironing their clothes.
5. Cooking
One of the activities that unites families and makes the most effective use of time is cooking. This work helps children learn how to take care of themselves, build nutritious meals, problem-solving skills or stimulate creativity. Parents can assign tasks to wash vegetables, plan family meals for young children and prepare dishes with older children.
6. Use a knife
When learning how to use knives and scissors, children can prepare a simple breakfast by themselves in case their parents are busy and make everyone feel more secure when leaving their children at home alone. You should teach your child how to hold a knife properly, how to use a knife to prepare food, and how to provide first aid when injured by using a knife.
7. Use a fire extinguisher
Parents can search for videos showing how to use a fire extinguisher at home on YouTube if they cannot practice at home. Using a fire extinguisher is one of the basic independence lessons but many students, even adults, do not pay attention. Children learning how to use a fire extinguisher are learning how to protect themselves.
8. Repair objects in the house
Knowing how to repair household items will promote children's independence and creativity. When they grow up, they can handle some family problems themselves and save money on repairs.
You can ask your child to sit next to you and watch their parents repair things or give them the necessary tools to remember the tools in the house. Older children can be shown how to fix plumbing, change a light bulb, or fix a car.
9. Sewing
Sewing can help children learn how to handle problems. Young children often love sewing activities, so parents can guide their children. In addition to sewing buttons and mending tears, you can help your children recycle old clothes, thereby learning about how to save money and promoting their creativity.
10. Communicate with people around you
If your child is shy and quiet, teach them how to communicate with people around them because when they grow up, they will inevitably have to talk to lecturers, managers or colleagues. Communication ability is one of the useful tools to help children build and develop themselves in the future.
During the break, you can encourage your child to call friends and relatives far away to chat and ask about their health situation. You should also spend a lot of time talking to your child and listening to them tell stories.
11. Time management
Most children around the world have to miss school because of Covid-19 and have to stay home all day. If you don't know how to manage your time, you will quickly feel bored, sluggish and not use your personal time effectively. This is an opportunity for parents to teach their children how to manage time.
Encourage your child to create a daily schedule that includes basic tasks such as studying online, doing homework, sleeping, reading, playing sports, and following the pre-determined plan. In this way, children will practice the habit of organizing their time and using holidays effectively.
